Mindfulness Meditation: Drop-In Classes FOR NEW and experienced MEDITATORS (1.5 hours)
In 2017 The Mindfulness Institute is offering Monday evening Drop-In sessions open to everyone.
The Monday program is for anyone who would like to practice meditation in a safe and comfortable group setting. The teaching is secular, and participants of any spiritual or religious background are welcome. The goal of this program is to develop community with other meditators. No previous experience with meditation is required for the Monday evening meditation.
Mindfulness is a natural part of being human that involves present moment awareness. It can be cultivated through formal and informal mindfulness exercises, both of which will be explored in this program. Scientific research in this field demonstrates a multitude of improvements in quality of life associated with practicing mindfulness.
In each drop-in session, we will explore what mindfulness is and the effects of mindfulness on various aspects of quality of life and stress management. We will engage in guided meditations. There will also be time to ask questions and to explore how mindfulness can be developed in the context of our busy lives. Instructions will be given for participants who have limited experience with meditation.
Drop-In classes are led by Priscilla M. Koop, PhD.
Classes are held at Grandview Heights Community Centre (attached to Grandview Heights School),
12603 63 Avenue, Edmonton AB. * Free Parking
The Drop-In rate is $20/class, payable at the door. Receipts will be offered.
Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a Yoga mat, a cushion (or pillow), and a water bottle. Please consider dressing in layers and/or bringing socks and a wrap as the room can get chilly when we meditate.
